Jump in a water taxi for an evening out
It’s a quintessential Caribbean experience. The boats leave every Tuesday evening at 6pm from Camana Bay and take you on a sunset tour of the North Sound. Arrive at Kaibo Beach Bar and the Tuesday night party will just be starting to rock. The Caribbean barbecue takes the form of an unlimited buffet. Tiki torches light the way to rustic benches and a live local band is always part of the scene—to top it off see how low you can go limbo dancing. You may be feeling very agile after the rum punch specials, it’s hard not to join the fun and give it a try.
The Beach Bar also throws monthly and annual events. The full moon dinner “Luna Del Mar” is on the Friday nearest the full moon and includes DJ chill-out music and a paper lantern display. The great annual Kitefest is every Easter Monday—an island-wide event with kite competitions and live bands on the beach. You can hang out here any day of the week for some barefoot escapism lounging in a hammock amid thatched cabanas and leafy palms, though spontaneous volleyball games can break out anytime. Come for lunch; there’s local fish, salads, wraps and entrées hot off the grill are served all day. The pizza is served directly form the brick wood burning oven on the beach. There’s always a festive atmosphere as the evening progresses and the mudslides start to flow amidst a gregarious batch of visitors from yachties, to locals and expats.
