Luna del Mar
Full moon dining, chill-out music, sky lanterns
Kaibo Beach is a very special place, there are few places in this world where you can live out your desert island dreams of palm trees and white sand beaches, and still have a high class dining experience every month. With the global notoriety that the Luna Del Mar Party has gained as being one of the best beach dinners in the world, we get more than our fair share of ‘Luna Lovers’ gracing our shores. Each year the scene here grows with the ever-increasing number of chill-out faithful that return, bringing their loved-ones and spreading the vibe.
The Luna Del Mar monthly full moon dining experience is the ultimate celebratory 3- course dinner at Kaibo Beach. Dine under the stars to chill out beats, and enjoy the sky lantern display after dark.
Established for almost 10 years since the full moon June 2007, the buzzing vibe, free of pretention, has caused many to fall in love with the Luna Del Mar monthly full moon dinner party. The ‘sand-between-your-toes’ experience under the light of the full moon , shaded only by coconut palm fronds makes Kaibo Beach a perfect venue for an informal gathering with good friends. The 3 – course contemporary menu – creation of award winning chef Laurence Tham and his beach kitchen team – is served at the water’s edge. Every Luna Del Mar features a different creative menu. The boutique wine list perfectly complements the meal and the occasion. Tiki torch flames flicker to tranquil chill-out music. Ambient beats increase in tempo as the moon rises, and after dinner you can get your own lift from the paper lantern display and dancing on the beach. Docking is free to all Kaibo customers on this perfect night for boating. Try a fresh mint Mojito, or a Dark-and-Stormy, some of our house speciality cocktails, and relax into the weekend under the light of the full moon.

Real guest reviews for Luna Del Mar
Before traveling to Grand Cayman, we heard about how popular the Luna Del Mar dinner is at Kaibo and decided to check it out. We made our reservations in advance but once we got on the island and realized how difficult it is to arrange transportation to the North Side around the time of our 9pm reservation, it was suggested by a concierge with Kaibo to book an earlier 7:30PM reservation and a round trip water taxi would be able to take us to Kaibo for only $20CI. After telling the concierge that we’d like to go ahead and change our reservation to his recommendation, he gladly took care of the rest and let us know exactly where the marina for departure was as well as time of departure. Now let me say, I’ve been in water taxis and seen them all over the caribbean but Grand Cayman’s version of a water taxi is simply a mini yacht. Our captain Chris was very friendly and his boat was very clean. We left the Camana Bay marina at 6:10 and made the scenic 45 minute trip across the sound to the North Side. When we docked, the Kaibo scenery was just beautiful simply put. The waters were so calm and waves gently lapped at the shore. While originally we were reserved for tabled seating, we changed our mind once taking in the surroundings and asked for sand seating. The setting was amazing with candle center pieces, tufted seating cushions and blankets, tiki torches, and of course the nearby water. Our server promptly greeted us to ask for our orders. We opted for wine…my two friends ordered Riesling and after informing the server of my taste preference, she suggested a Pinot Noir which I just loved. I ordered the Cerviche with wahoo, mahi, and shrimp. It was accompanied with tortilla chips. Very flavorful and delicious. For dinner, we all ordered a different entrée so that we could sample from each other. I ordered the Coconut Curry Grouper accompanied by green pea pods and fragrant rice. It was some of the most delicious grouper I have ever had. The coconut curry sauce was slightly sweet, slightly spicy. Simply delicious. My friends ordered the lamb shank and steak, both of which were really good. For dessert, one of my friends ordered the chocolate, which was layers of white and dark chocolate mouse served with a homemade vanilla wafer. After dinner, we sat and listened to the music, enjoyed each other’s company, and after our food had settled, we got to set our lanterns off. What a beautiful experience. I know I use that word a lot in this review but it’s the only way to describe the experience at Kaibo. While I went with my girlfriends on our girls getaway, we saw young couples, older couples, small families, large groups of friends/family, and small groups of friends like us, all enjoying. The only negative was the moon never made an appearance at Kaibo and shortly after we launched our lantern and watched a few others launch theirs, it began to pour down raining. Luckily, they had a covered bar area that we hastily retreated to. Our captain readied the boat as the rain stopped by wiping down all of the seats and upper deck cushions. He also phoned to the West Bay and made sure we had transportation waiting when we docked. The trip back was even more tranquil. The moon finally made an appearance and was a beautiful backdrop, along with our captain’s music, for the cruise back. We docked and were each transported back to our respective locations at no cost, but we all tipped anyway. I would recommend this experience to anyone vacationing Grand Cayman.
